As manifestações acabaram.

Jamais.

Sejam bem vindos. Nós adoramos futebol, receber amigos e sorrir pra eles. Não será diferente.

It’s gonna be all right!

Dear Tourist friend, from whatever country you may be, I, in the name of many like me (although not everyone), would like to make you feel more at ease.

The media in Brazil is doing what we could call a terrorist job. Saying that Brazil is at war against the World Cup. That’s not true. That’s just alarmist news to sell papers and draw attention.

You’re not at risk. Nobody here hates you because you decided to visit us. It’s actually quite the contrary: we love to be hosts! And we are very good at that.

You can come to Brazil!

There’s half a dozen people, like everywhere else, that don’t know how to separate things and is focusing on other people the fact that we not very good at electing some people and that we just realize the problem when it’s already too late. Brazilians realize they are having a baby only at the day of birth not when we are having sex.

Don’t judge Brazil by an insignificant and noisy minority that shouts against the World Cup. We are not pleased with our government and our problems for more than 500 years. But the Cup was named today’s villain and some stupid people bought that.

We invested around 25 billion in the World Cup, 8 billion in stadiums, a big part of that was from government loans that will be payed back. The rest was in infrastructure things  that benefit all not just those that like football.

Some people shout passionately and uninformed, motivated by people wit other interests at hand, that this money is hurting Brazilians as a whole.

Fools. They didn’t even try to look into the matter and see that while Brazil spent 25 billion in the World Cup we also spent 825 billion in health and education.

Is the situation bad? Yes, of course. But the problem is more what they do with this 825 billion and less what they do with the 25 billion for the World Cup.

They think the problem is the lack of money, e not the bad administration of it.

They got in a fair fight, but for the wrong reasons. And using the worst means they could. They lost to themselves when they had the majority of the people on their side but couldn’t define a clear focus for their demands.

The protests that crowded the streets in Brazil last year have ended. Today, a minority of violent people is just willing to make a fuss and draw attention. They say that the World Cup is the reason of our problems. They forget to blame us, the people who vote, for what we do every 4 years. Wich includes not questioning what they do with those 825 billion, for example.

Those 25 million are gonna be responsible for screams of Goal! And that bothers people that don’t support the idea that we can be happy and critic of our government at the same time.

Come to Brazil! We will love to host and show you our football, our samba, our beaches. If you want to see the bad sides of Brazil, we can also show you. But we know that it’s not your fault.

We have some structural problems, but you have any trouble don’t be afraid to ask. We’d love to help. Nowhere in the world you’ll find such a happy to help people like in Brazil.

Our people have complexes, some flaws, but we are good people. We don’t judge people by race, religion, nothing like that. We treat everyone like equals. With the few sorry excepetions, like you probably have in your country.

There are idiots everywhere. That’s not something exclusive of Brazil. By the way, few things that we are ashamed of happen in other countries too. But we seem to think it happens only in Brazil.

I’m sorry for the inconveniences we may have while welcoming you to our country. But I’m pretty sure everything is going to be all right. It always does.

We may do it a little late, but we do it. We may do it in a disorganized fashion, allowing others to take advantage of us and our money, but in the end we make it happen.

You can come with open hearts. Brazilians are not against the World Cup. We are not against tourists or tourism. This minority that doesn’t know how to separate things may be loud but they will be silenced by the majority that doesn’t think it’s fair to disturb your trip because of our problems that only concerns ourselves.

But please, dear tourist, don’t feel sorry for us. We reap what we saw. Although we may astonish you with our undeveloped potential, we don’t deserve your pitty.

Welcome! We love football, we love making friends, and we love smiling with them. And this time it won’t be different.

There will be a World Cup! And it’s gonna be great!

Best regards,
RicaPerrone
